Dr. Lawrence Frank, Dr. Seema Gupta, and Dr. Theresa Nguyen perform small incision cataract surgery on an outpatient basis. The procedure, known as phacoemulsification, entails using a high-tech ultrasonic probe to dissolve the eye's cataract-clouded natural lens and irrigate the eye. After the natural lens is removed, it is replaced with a premium intraocular lens implant (IOL). Drs. Frank and Gupta offer ReSTOR multifocal and AcrySof Toric IOLs. What Is a Cataract?

The human eye has a lens that helps you focus images for clear vision. The lens is located behind the iris, which is the round colored (e.g., brown, green or blue) part of the eye. Due to factors such as age, injury, certain medications, or heredity, the lens may become cloudy and prevent clear vision. Symptoms of cataracts include blurry or dulled vision, sensitivity to light, decreased night vision, and generally poor vision.

What Is a Lens implant?

Cataracts form on the focusing lens of the eye. When the lens is removed, it is replaced with a lens implant, which is a very thin disk around 1/4 inch in diameter. Without a lens implant, extremely thick eyeglasses would be required to see clearly. At our clinic, we offer both ReSTOR and Toric lens implants. The lens implant is made of a soft, clear acrylic material and will usually last a lifetime. You will not feel the lens implant in your eye.
